Originally released in May 2006 as exclusive bonus CDR included only with pre-orders of Niko Skorpio’s Escape from Heaven album (SPECD06036). The CDR came in hand-painted sleeves. Digital reissue contains redesigned artwork (as displayed above).
Composed and conceived out of field recordings (except 3) between April 21 – May 2, 2006 e.v. in cities, suburbs, forests and mines in Southern Finland.
Try playing track 1 on repeat for prolonged displacement. Tracks 2 and 3 may serve for awakening, deprogramming or annoyance. Track 4 just appeared from among random junk.
The source material for the track Tower of Silence was recorded at Luolavuori, Turku.
Luolavuori is, besides the district I used to live in at the time, the highest hill in Turku.
The hill contains several small caves; the largest one is high enough to for a man to stand
in. Hence the name Luolavuori (‘Cave Mountain’ in English). The highest part of the hill is
actually artificial – it is an old landfill area. In the 1950’s, garbage disposal still
in operation, the largest ever rat in Finland was found there, weighing 665g. The poor
creature was shot...
The hill provides a great view over the city of Turku and surrounding areas. A curious bonus,
when enjoying the view, is the realisation that one is standing on a gigantic pile of garbage.
Reviews
"Consisting of 4 tracks, the first three recorded in various locations in South Finland between April 21st and May 2nd 2006 and the final track is taken from various session recordings for the album. The first of the tracks is Tower of Silence which forms the fourth part of the Dudael suite and forms a link between Part 3 and Towards Distant 93 [on Escape from Heaven] which follows it. Clocking in at 17 and a half minutes, Tower of Silence is a harrowing windswept ambient opus. Red and 777 are based around field recordings, the former of water dripping and latter basically a constant pitch signal, possibly from a TV. The fourth and final track Memory of Another Colour is an experiment sound manipulation with orchestration and soothing electronic tones obscured by gently undulating static interference."
