Rural man — happy man
2007/10/09 22:09 | category: Xtraneous | tags: memories, mindAbout half a year has now passed since I left the city and relocated to the countryside. Every time I discuss the move with someone, I find myself saying “I haven’t had a moment of regret”, and that’s as near an absolute truth as anything in this universe of relativities…!
Finally I feel like I have complete, boundless Freedom to concentrate on Work and Life to the fullest. While cities have their pleasant sides (friends, cinema and ethnic restaurants mostly), I couldn’t be happier about getting rid of all the distractions and psychic noise.
Here, I can spend a few days straight painting oil on canvas, board and found items, then leaving them to dry and isolate myself to the studio for the rest of the week. Yet the design office and the Some Place Else warehouse are all close at hand, and everything can be (and is being) run smoothly and conveniently. Besides, we now have more than double the space we used to have in Turku (including home and workspace), but the monthly costs have been cut to almost half of what they used to be.
Whenever I get bored sitting inside, I can step outside the door and wander around in the fields and the forests nearby. And still, the largest cities are only 1-2 hours away whenever such a need occurs…
This serves as a note to self – Remember, you’re happy!
