Went out photographing yesterday. It rained somewhat, and the chilly wind brought vibrant feelings of autumn; the contrast of chill and warmth, rain and moisture, mushrooms and the orange blaze of maple leaves. At this time of the year I’m always convinced that autumn is my favourite season. Most inspiring.

I booked the studio for the Equinox night in order to complete the recordings for the fabled Escape from Heaven, the album I’ve been (on and off) working on since the year 2000. After that, it’ll need the usual post-production and mixing battles, but once you manage to ride the beast you don’t need to tame it to reach a destination… though you might find yourself from some place else compared to your original plans, but such is the nature of the process sometimes. Needless to say I feel this is the strongest material I’ve laid my hands on since don’t know when. Even the oldest parts that come from years ago feel fresh and relevant.

A fanboy’s note to self:
I predict the forthcoming Fields of the Nephilim album, Mourning Sun, to arrive here simultaneously with the first snow. The album seems to suggest ice, snow, winter… Ice Age, the one gone or the one to come? Perhaps both, considering the multi-layered depth of previous Nephilim/Nefilim works such as Zoon or Elizium. Anyway it’s one of the highly anticipated things here in the NeitherSphere recently.
